On July 6, the drinking water treatment unit was inaugurated, located on Chemin du Font de l’Aube in Villevieille. Construction of the treatment unit and bringing the catchment up to standard for an amount of more than 2.5 million euros.
The Villevieille intermunicipal drinking water supply union (SIAEP), which brings together four municipalities (Souvignargues, Aujargues, Junas and Villevieille), i.e. a population served of 4,667 inhabitants, built this new drinking water treatment unit. , commissioned in April 2021, to improve the quality of the water distributed.
All of the work – civil engineering, equipment, development and modification of the network mesh – was carried out from the catchment of Chemin de la Plaine to the Font de l’Aube site. The operation, maintenance, monitoring and repairs of all the structures for the four municipalities (production, protection of catchments, treatment, storage, transfer and distribution) have been entrusted to the company SAUR, under a Public service delegation (DSP), for a period of 12 years, since January 1, 2017.
How does this processing unit work?
The new process consists of filtering the raw water coming from the catchment (pumping 45 m deep in the aquifer) using ultrafiltration membranes which retain all the microscopic particles present in the water in order to eliminate turbidity. (presence of particles that cloud it) and pathogenic organisms. After filtration, the water is treated with chlorine gas to ensure the persistence of disinfection.
Many advantages result from this: advanced refining allowing to obtain a very low turbidity compared to the quality reference, improvement of the organoleptic qualities (taste, clarity), elimination of certain pathogenic agents (bacteria, virus, cryptospridium), reduction of the dosage of chlorine. The new treatment unit received all the necessary equipment to continuously monitor water quality. In addition to the building equipped with filtration, treatment, measurements, control, recovery pumps, the installation also includes three tanks, one for receiving raw water, one for settling filter washing water and one for storage. treated water, before it is pumped back by the return pumps to the Souvignargues and Villevieille reservoirs. The Villevieille water tower supplies, in addition to the town, the reservoirs of Aujargues and Junas.
The total cost of the work, including the processing unit, bringing the catchment up to standard and restructuring the networks, amounted to €2,512,834 excluding tax. The Departmental Council participated for an amount of €478,727 and the Rhône Mediterranean and Corsica Water Agency for an amount of €540,356. ” The “Water and Climate 3.0: let’s prepare for the future” strategy illustrates the desire of the Departmental Assembly to develop the territories harmoniously and to organize itself to deal with the environmental upheavals to come. This strategy must make it possible to respond to the challenges of climate change in order to sustainably guarantee all Gardoises and all Gardois access to a quality water resource. “Said Françoise Laurent-Perrigot, president of the Gard departmental council.
