Villeurbanne: man arrested after trying to steal from a vehicle and spitting at a police officer

A man was arrested and taken into custody for attempted carjacking. He also spat at a police officer. Already known to the police for aggravated robbery, he was presented this Monday for a delayed appearance.

A man, aged 24, was arrested and detained by the police on Sunday 29 September in Villeurbanne, for attempted robbery. During his arrest, he also spat against one of the police officers, according to a press release published this Tuesday October 1 by the Interregional Directorate of the Rhône National Police.

Around 9:45 pm on Sunday, the Villeurbanne police services were called for an attempt to steal a car that was parked on the Route de Genas. When they arrived, a man was being held down by two people. A crowd had gathered around them.

When he saw the police, the suspect fled. He was quickly arrested. When he was arrested, the latter spat against one of the police officers.

Already wanted for aggravated robbery

The suspect had a bloody face and appeared to be intoxicated. He was taken to hospital for treatment. When he returned, he was arrested at the police station.

Refusing to give his identity at first, the suspect appeared at a hearing where he denied the facts.

The suspect was already known to the police and was the subject of an investigation file as part of an investigation into an aggravated robbery committed in Lyon.

Two complaints were lodged, including one by the police officer who was the victim of the spit. The suspect was presented this Monday, September 30, to the Lyon public prosecutor’s office as part of a delayed appearance.
