Only a few streets in Villeurbanne will remain at 50km/h after the implementation of the new speed limit.
The residents of Villeurbanne will have to get used to driving slower. From September 30, the maximum speed authorized in a large part of the city will be 30km/h, the municipality said in a press release on Monday.
Some streets are not affected by this new speed limit and will remain at 50km/h: boulevards Stalingrad, Laurent-Bonnevay and 11-november-1918, avenue Albert-Einstein, rue de la Poudrette, part of the route de Genas, the Cusset bridge, rue du 4-August-1789 on the Saint-Jean side and rue Léon-Blum to the east of the ring road.
Measure in place since 2022 in Lyon
With this transition to “City 30”, the municipality of Villeurbanne ensures that it wants to improve “user safety”, the “quality of life of local residents” but also the “sharing of public space”.
“With Villeurbanne’s passage to 30 km/h, 59% of the population of the metropolis of Lyon will reside in a City 30. This measure has been proven for many years in many French and European cities, and is starting to bear fruit. fruits in the metropolis”, rejoices Fabien Bagnon, vice-president of the Métropole de Lyon responsible for roads and active mobility in a press release.
The speed in the city of Lyon has already been lowered to 30km/h on March 30, 2022. One year after the implementation of the measure, the municipality and the metropolis had drawn up an “encouraging assessment”. However, motorists still have difficulty respecting the speed limit: more than 1,000 tickets have been drawn up since the start of the year.
