The basketball players of Villeurbanne, reigning French champions (2019), went to win 95 to 67 at Boulazac, Saturday in a late match of the 9th day of the French Championship, and return to the standings.
In a season turned upside down by the Covid-19 pandemic with a championship that idled for more than four months between the end of October and the beginning of March and a busy schedule in the Euroleague, Asvel only played fifteen matches of the championship.
Saturday in Boulazac, red lantern in the standings, the players of TJ Parker signed their 10th victory of the season. With a ratio of 67% of victories, they glue back to the fourth place occupied by Bourg-en-Bresse (12 victories in 18 matches).
Hanging for a quarter, the Villeurbannais made the difference quite quickly in the second quarter, in particular thanks to the performance of Guerschon Yabusele (22 points), while Thomas Heurtel regaled the lead with 14 assists.
Qualified for the final of the Coupe de France scheduled for next Saturday against Dijon at Bercy, Asvel will play before an Elite match on Tuesday against Pau-Orthez at l’Astroballe, to continue its recovery in the standings, still led by the duo Monaco (88%) and Dijon (79%).
