The park of La Feyssine of 41 hectares has Villeurbanne will get a makeover with the planting of 3,700 young forest plants.

This work aims to renew the forest cover aging, affected by global warming and decline in the Rhône water table.

The students, actors of the project

Wednesday November 27, 60 children will participate in this initiative by each planting a treeaccompanied by the association France Nature Environment.

Their commitment is part of the dynamic of Arboressencesa week dedicated to the planting of trees and shrubs in several green spaces in the city, in collaboration with 18 classes and 3 after-school groups.

An ecological and sustainable renewal

Since last fall, 323 dead standing treesmainly poplars and willows, were felled to guarantee the safety of users.

In response, around twenty different speciesincluding holm oaks and Mediterranean hackberry trees, are during planting. These species are chosen for their ability to adapt to climate change.

Young plants, from a height from 20 to 60 cmare densely arranged to recreate a natural dynamic of forest regeneration.

Key figures of Arboressences

In addition to La Feyssine, other sites such as Vaillant-Couturier Park and the square from Two benefit from this initiative. In total, 542 trees et 300 shrubs will be planted by teams of gardeners, thus supporting urban biodiversity and the fight against global warming.

An action that demonstrates Villeurbanne’s commitment to more resilient and sustainable green spaces.
