Villerupt and Audun-Le-Tiche. A day in the open air to (re) discover the Micheville site

“It is a green lung just a stone’s throw from our city centers”, insists Sébastien Rehibi, vice-president of the community of communes of the Pays-Haut Val d’Alzette (CCPHVA), “a wealth and a natural potential to be developed “.

If part of the old Micheville iron and steel site is currently undergoing urban rehabilitation, the stopping of the operation of the iron mine in the 1980s has also given way to a vast wilderness, more than 400 hectares, where nature has taken back its rights. This sensitive natural area (ENS), which is home to many protected species, is still “too little known” for promoters of sustainable development and tourism in the area. A day dedicated to outdoor activities, proposed by the CCPHVA, this Sunday, June 27, will be an opportunity to highlight the site.

“The idea is also to offer a great breath of fresh air to the public and to promote the nature and outdoor activities of local associations”, continues Sébastien Rehibi. The day will thus mobilize in particular the volunteers of the associations Villerupt Tous Temps, Train 11 of Alzette and Micheville Ciel Ouvert… The objective will be to develop and perpetuate this first multi-activity outdoor event.

In the program

The day will be launched from the belvedere in Villerupt. Free access to the program : hiking, educational walks, mountain biking and introduction to electrically assisted cycling, but also yoga and cardio-training sessions. In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Departures for hiking (7 km loop) and mountain biking (4 km) can be spread throughout the day. Two educational walks to discover the flora and fauna are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., upon registration, as well as a walk around the industrial and mining heritage, at 10 a.m.

A partnership has also been set up with the Escalade évasion Thionville club which is offering, this same Sunday, an open day at the Audun-le-Tiche climbing site. “A site which is also exceptional but above all known to practitioners and which deserves to be discovered by the inhabitants of the territory”, underlines Florent Rondelli, referent for the outdoor day. Fans will be able to walk the natural cliffs at the place called Petit Vewelsberg but also learn to caving in the cave diaclase (participation of 10 € and prior registration).

Discovery day of outdoor activities, Sunday June 27, 8 am to 6 pm, from the Villerupt belvedere. Entrance and free entertainment. Catering on site.
