Villarejo suggests that he “probably” spoke with Cospedal about Bárcenas’ lawyer

Madrid, Nov 27 (EFE).- Former commissioner José Manuel Villarejo hinted this Monday at the National Court that he “probably” once spoke with the former general secretary of the PP María Dolores de Cospedal about a Russian-Georgian mafia boss who was defended by Javier Gómez de Liaño, lawyer of the former treasurer of the PP Luis Bárcenas.

The figure of Zakhar Kalashov, considered a mafia boss and convicted in 2010 in Spain for money laundering, has appeared in the statement given by Villarejo as a witness in the context of the alleged pressure that Bárcenas and his then lawyer would have received from “third parties.” linked” to the PP so that “compromising or harmful information would not come to light” for training on the Gürtel case.

Kalashov’s name appears in the agendas that were seized from the former commissioner, who has acknowledged to the media that “probably” in a meeting with María Dolores de Cospedal, who testifies tomorrow, they talked about him.

“Probably at one point she told me or asked me about that because she had very good relations with the Secretary of State, with the Minister of the Interior, and it is likely that she asked me about it,” he indicated.

Villarejo has referred to some of his notes about “some possible payments” that Gómez de Liaño would have supposedly received from Kalashov and the “procedures” that he made in this regard.

They are, according to the order of the Chamber that ordered the judge to investigate these pressures on Bárcenas and his lawyer, “procedures” that Villarejo would have carried out in 2014 “to obtain information about said alleged payments” and about which he would have spoken to the then Secretary of State. of Security, Francisco Martínez.

Villarejo has reiterated that, as an intelligence agent, “he always reported everything to high authorities of the Ministry of the Interior and the CNI,” and regarding Cospedal, he has indicated that he held “many” meetings with her in what was “an exchange of information”.

The former commissioner has denied, however, that he spoke with Gómez de Liaño regarding any summary.

The judge in the case, Manuel García Castellón, has also questioned a lawyer who rejected Kalashov’s defense in the context of an extradition because he found out that Gómez de Liaño was there, whom another lawyer, who in his case has declared as under investigation, described as a great professional.
