The objective of the Villalba Hospital with “Madrid Dona Sangre” is to reinforce the reserves
He Villalba General University Hospital, joins, once again, the simultaneous donation marathon “Madrid Donates Blood”; which is convened and coordinated this week by the Transfusion Center of the Community of Madrid with a direct message for the population: “Save lives. Donate at least twice a year.” This initiative begins today, October 2, and will last until Sunday the 8th. Its objective is to reinforce the region’s blood reserves, which have been reduced after the summer period, to meet the hospital needs of the coming weeks. and months.
At least 7,500 donations
According to the Transfusion Center, blood reserves are below their optimal level. Therefore, the challenge of this week of the Madrid Donate Blood marathon is to reach all the donation points of the Community of Madrid (Transfusion Center, mobile units and hospital donation units), to least 7,500 donations. It is about preventing critical situations and covering the demand of Madrid hospitals in the coming months.
The Villalba Hospital will contribute to the Madrid Dona Sangre marathon by opening its donation room. It is located on the ground floor of the hospital, next to Extractions; a safe space with easy and quick access, from today until Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A simple, painless and quick process that saves lives
“Donating blood is a simple, painless, altruistic, quick process – it barely lasts 20 minutes – and very necessary, since blood is an essential good. It is only obtained by donation and is essential in many everyday situations; such as surgeries, hemorrhages, severe anemias, traffic accidents, oncohematological treatments”; as stated by the Dr. Rafael Martos Martinezhead of the Hematology and Hemotherapy Service at the Villalbino center.
Additionally, the specialist remembers that “with a single donation you can help save the lives of three patients in need of transfusion.” Women can donate three times a year, and men up to four; and invites all Madrid residents to come to their nearest hospital these days to make this gesture of solidarity.
For anyone to donate blood, they only need to be healthy, be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos, do not come fasting, and complete an affiliation questionnaire and health questions. Additionally, before donating, the volunteer’s blood pressure is taken and their finger is pricked to determine their hemoglobin level and rule out anemia.
