Village Heads Urged to Maximize Budget for Economic Growth, Says Minister Tito Karnavian
In a powerful address at the 2025 National Villages Day commemoration event in Sumedang, West Java, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian called on village heads to effectively utilize the village budget to drive economic growth. The minister emphasized that achieving the government’s ambitious target of eight percent growth is within reach if villages contribute optimally.
Karnavian underscored the village budget as a critical stimulus for fostering independence in villages. “The village budget is a stimulus for villages to become more independent,” he stated, urging leaders to harness their resources to boost revenue.
To achieve this, the minister highlighted the need for village heads to develop entrepreneurial skills. such skills, he argued, are essential for identifying untapped potential within villages. “Thes skills are essential to help village heads identify potential in their respective villages, which can then be utilized to boost village revenue,” Karnavian explained.
He proposed actionable strategies, including utilizing vacant land, strengthening the food sector, encouraging micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and activating village-owned enterprises (BUMDes). These measures, he believes, will maximize the economic potential of villages.
Karnavian also emphasized the pivotal role villages play in supporting food self-sufficiency and boosting the national economy. “The government’s economic growth target of up to eight percent is not impossible to achieve, especially if all villages contribute optimally,” he remarked.
The 2025 Villages Day Commemoration, he hopes, will serve as a momentum-building event to evaluate ongoing efforts in village development. He also called for enhanced collaboration among all related parties. “The aspirations of the Indonesian nation rest not only with the central government but also with the village heads supported by regional heads,” Karnavian affirmed.| Key Strategies for Village Economic Growth |
