In 2006, star chef Sonja Lee bought the property by the Oslo Fjord, unseen.
The tired building was completely renovated. The following year, the restaurant “Villa Malla” opened its doors, which have since become known for palm fronds, beach life and Mediterranean food.

– It has been a fantastic journey, and we have created an open space for the public that has been well attended, Lee says to Børsen.
She justifies the sale with the fact that everything has its time. Now she will prioritize other, new projects, she says, without disclosing what.
– It has been a dream workplace. I am grateful and feel privileged, says Lee.
Sonja Lee is the daughter of another chef, namely noodle king Chul Ho Lee, better known as Mr. Lee.

Helicopter option
The commercial building is 1207 square meters, and is located by the water’s edge with a sandy beach, jetty, terraces and palm trees.
The property has access both by land and by sea. A separate helicopter landing pad also ensures guests the opportunity to arrive from the air.
The idyllic location by the Oslo Fjord is described in the ad as “magnificent”, the view as “fantastic”.

It is unclear what amount the chef is asking for – but the price range is stated in the ad as “high”. Bids must be submitted by the bidder stating the value of the property.

– The seller has wanted stakeholders to get a private viewing, where you can discuss price in peace and quiet, says Norum Larsen.
The broker adds that a number of stakeholders have called and asked about the price and the property’s potential.
Lee does not reveal to Børsen what she hopes to get for the magnificent property, but says she believes that the market will decide the right price.
– The potential here is enormous. We took over a property with a good history as a hub. I am sure that those who come next will also be able to build on a positive wave, says Lee to Børsen.
– I want to contribute with my knowledge, so that it is as good a transition as possible, she adds.
Believes the kingdom’s luxury construction is illegal
Brand not included
Included in the purchase is a detached house of 300 square meters, a stone’s throw away. The plot is a total of 5.8 acres.
A potential buyer will buy all the shares in the company Hurum Strandhotell AS. This company owns both the “Villa Malla” house and the detached house in Nordstrandveien 11 A.
The brand “Villa Malla” with associated rights is not included with the trade.
– There will be a separate negotiation about the brand, and any further operation, with the seller, the broker says.
