Jhon Duran, Aston Villa’s Colombian striker, scores an unforgettable goal against FC Bayern. This is a dream come true for him.
Munich – Jhon Duran will probably never forget the goal he scored in Aston Villa’s Champions League game against FC Bayern. After coming onto the field in the 70th minute, he managed to overcome the rushing Manuel Neuer with a precise left-footed shot in the 79th minute.
Villa hero scores against the “club of my dreams”
There was great celebration at Villa Park because, as in the 1982 national championship final, the Birmingham club celebrated a surprising win against FC Bayern. Meanwhile, Unai Emery defeated Munich for the third time in the Champions League, while Vincent Kompany demonstrated composure after his first defeat with the German record champions.
For the 20-year-old Duran, who moved from Chicago Fire to Villa in January 2023, it was a dream come true – and against a very special club. “I’m happy that I was able to score, especially against such a great team like Bayern Munich, the club of my dreams,” Duran said, according to the Colombian news channel Snail Television.

Last season, Duran was unable to move beyond the role of the joker and scored 8 goals in 37 competitive games. But this season the Colombian international is in top form and has already scored six times in 297 minutes.

Duran raved about how the goal came from his own half: “I know Pau Torres well, he has the quality to play the pass there. Then I’m there at the right moment and his pass is incredible.” The Villa hero added: “Bayern Munich are a big team in Europe. For me they are one of the best teams in the world and I am glad I was able to play this game against them.”
Duran was also pleased to receive great praise from Emiliano Martínez, who made several saves to become the second match winner: “He is in top form, he has come this season with a different mentality and is working very hard.” The goalscorer was “an incredible substitute” who scored “against one of the best players in history”. However, Manuel Neuer couldn’t be happy about that and was forced to defend his high position when conceding a goal. But Duran shouldn’t care about that.
