“Green Nursery Villa Genesis” is a work promoted by the program “I love my neighborhood” Villa Genesis 2 of Los Angeleswhich consisted of giving new life to community spaces, through training, talks, practical workshops and the construction of a community greenhouse. This space is more than 70 m2specially set up with the temperature and light conditions necessary for the production of vegetables, plants and medicinal herbs.
Soil and seed preparation, irrigation, fertilization and pest control, among other techniques, were part of the knowledge received by the participants of this program.who, in fact, are already preparing for the spring and summer crops, eager to harvest fresh and healthy food and, above all, to spend pleasant moments sharing with neighbors.
Gladys Márquez, a member of the initiative, said: “It is very good, wonderful, because it helps all of us neighbors who make our greenhouses. This will be very useful for them, because they will be able to expand their sales capacity and with a much better harvest, not like before when everything was done by hand. Now, as neighbors, we will have much more knowledge, we will do it in a more professional way.”
Meanwhile, Rosa Díaz, another participant in the project, commented: “I find this community workshop to be incredible, to make a greenhouse so that we can harvest our crops as a community, together with all my neighbors. We have learned many new things and, in addition, it helps us get out of the house and is in a pleasant environment, because all my neighbors love to grow and, here in the village, we have always harvested our vegetables; now it is a job with more tools and more in community.”
For his part, the mayor of the commune, Esteban Kraus, said: “As a municipality we are very happy with what we are doing with the”I love my neighborhood”. On this occasion we are working with about 30 neighbors who installed, together with the program, a community nursery that allows not only to grow plants, but also for the neighbors to know the effort that is made; also, that they have an environmental conduct in their surroundings, in their home; and, finally, that neighbors of Villa Genesisthrough the program, they can get to know each other and work together.”
