After the liberation, Gelria was never used as a home again: it remained an office with new owners and users, including contractor Henk Koop. In the late 1980s, another monumental villa on the Verlengde Hereweg, Villa Volonte, was demolished and replaced by an apartment complex. For a while it was feared that Gelria would meet the same fate, but in 1995 it was designated a national monument, which means that it cannot be demolished. According to the architect who restored Gelria in recent months, the property will be rented out again as an office and the current owner, who bought it in 2020, will not live in it.
