The City Council of Vilaflor delivered its Chasna Solidaria award, coinciding with the big day of the festivities in honor of Santo Hermano Pedro, to the Canarian Foundation Carrera por la Vida, which is recognized for its social and charitable work. The mayor of Vilaflor de Chasna, Agustina Beltrán, handed over the statuette of the first Canarian saint to Brigitte Gypen, president of the foundation, whom she thanked for her dedication and that of the team of volunteers who for 16 years have contributed to raising awareness about the importance of make breast cancer visible, promoting solidarity initiatives to advance research.
“For people affected by cancer, their lives change from one day to the next, and its consequences are multiple. On the one hand, there is carrying the disease, accepting it; then will come the complex treatments, transportation to hospitals and the prostheses that are needed, hence moral support, accompaniment and resources are constantly needed, ”said the mayor.
