Viktoria Plzeň says goodbye to the European Cup. In the group stage of the Champions League they did not manage to get a single point, in the last match against Barcelona they lost 2: 4. However, she performed a performance for which she truly deserved post-match applause.
Viktoria Plzeň entered the field with the aim of tormenting one of the best teams in the world, which, however, did not shine at all in the demanding group and will play again in the Europa League only in the spring.
But it failed in its goal. Already in the sixth minute after the run, Jindřich Staněk was unable to fully kick the ball and Marcos Alonso brought him into the net on the goal line.
Viktoria benefited from the counterattacks and had its opportunities. Tomáš Chorý headed the crossbar after twenty minutes and on 30 minutes Lukáš Kalvach made the visitors’ goalkeeper stand out from a separate escape.
When Viktoria failed to assert themselves, Barcelona took over. Jordi Alba found Ferran Torres one minute before half time and had no problem getting the ball behind goalkeeper Staňko.
In the second half, hope for Pilsen arrives. After a foul by Pablo Torre, Tomáš Chorý took a penalty, which kept his cool and sent the keeper to the other side.
But the celebrations of the Viktoria fans did not last long, two minutes later Torres scored again 1: 3, this time finding the Brazilian Raphiha.
But Viktoria did not give up and continued to fight. Adam Vlkanova found Choré in the 63rd minute, who reduced the score to 2: 3 with his head. He helped Viktoria mentally, Václav Pilař narrowly missed the post just shortly after.
