Viktor Verhulst was replaced by Gert’s father: ‘I don’t understand that’

Antwerp fan Viktor Verhulst is taking big steps in his DJ career. Last spring he signed a contract with the Dimitri Vegas label and this summer he has already performed at major events such as Tomorrowland and the famous club Ushuaïa in Ibiza. But the young DJ has even more: for the first time he is creating his own song.

Viktor is enthusiastic about his new project and announced in the ‘Vik en Gert’ podcast that he has already started playing his own track during his sets. “I started playing it this weekend to drive the audience crazy,” says Viktor. He wants to introduce his audience to his new sound and is looking forward to it the official release.

Father’s Confusion About Production

Not everyone seems to understand immediately what is involved in making a song. Gert VerhulstViktor’s father, continues to surprise his son as a DJ. “There’s still something I don’t understand. You say, ‘I’m making a record.’ But I don’t hear you on it and I don’t see you on it,” said Gert.

Viktor replied with a smile: “Yes, result, hey, dad! You know how it works, right? When a singer makes a new song, he stops everything while he ‘ performing and telling the audience about the song. That’s how he is in the set. With this, Viktor makes it clear that his approach as an artist is different traditional, but he wants to reach his audience in a unique way.

Hij wil zijn publiek alvast laten kennismaken met zijn nieuwe sound en kijkt uit naar de officiële release.

Vaders verwarring over producen

Niet iedereen lijkt meteen te begrijpen wat het producen van een nummer inhoudt. Gert Verhulst, vader van Viktor, blijft zich verbazen over zijn zoon als dj. “Er blijft iets dat ik niet snap. Je zegt: ‘Ik ben een plaat aan het maken.’ Maar ik hoor je er niet op en ik zie je er niet op”, merkte Gert op.

Viktor reageerde met een glimlach: “Ja, producen, hé, papa! Je weet toch hoe dat marcheert? Als een zanger een nieuw nummer maakt, legt die alles stil tijdens zijn optreden en vertelt hij het publiek over de song. Bij mij zit dat in de set. Ik mix die plaat erin.” Hiermee maakt Viktor duidelijk dat zijn aanpak als dj verschilt van die van een traditionele artiest, maar dat hij zijn publiek op een unieke manier wil bereiken.
