The winning photograph was selected from the Free category. Viktor Rimarev’s image captures a moment from last August, when the Baltic Sea coast was engulfed in low fog. Speaking about his win, he said. I love photography from the bottom of my heart and I feel very flattered that Haze has received this attention. Viktor Rimarev’s main occupation is programming in the electricity industry, but he tries to devote his free time to photography and leisure activities, often accompanied by rock or jazz. As a National Prize winner in Latvia, he will receive new equipment for his creative development.
The National Awards is an initiative of the World Photography Organisation and Sony to support local photographic communities in 61 countries around the world. This year, more than 340,000 photographs were submitted to the competition, of which 170,000 images were entered into the Open category, including the National Award winners.
“The winners of the Student, Youth, Free and Professional categories of the Sony World Photography Awards 2022 will be announced on 12 April 2022 and will be included in an exhibition at Somerset House Arts Centre in London.
