Viktor Axelsen to the Final Badminton Olympiad Tokyo

Viktor Axelsen qualified for the men’s singles badminton final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after winning 21-18, 21-11 over Kevin Cordon in the semifinals at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Sunday (1/8).

Axelsen attacked more since the beginning of the match. However, a number of Axelsen’s punches led to his own mistakes which earned Cordon points.

Cordon and Axelsen mutually earned points. However, Axelsen could not be in a superior position over Cordon until the score drew 7-7.

After having difficulty winning, Axelsen could turn to winning at the position of the score 8-7 and closed the first game interval with 11-8.

Axelsen’s hit in the net put Cordon back ahead 15-14. Cordon appeared aggressive after the interval. The net crossed to make Axelsen overwhelmed and lead 16-4.

The poor return from Cordon made Axelsen finish the match via a smash. The score was 21-18 for Axelsen’s advantage in the first game.

In the second game, Cordon again relied on crossed nets and cross smashes to get points. However, the Guatemalan athlete also made several mistakes in observation which resulted in points for Axelsen.

A hard hit by Cordon forced Axelsen to delay the lead in the second interval. However, Cordon’s net return put Axelsen up 11-6 in the second interval.

The return of Cordon who left the field made Axelsen close the match with a score of 21-11. Axelsen to the badminton men’s singles final awaits the winner of Anthony Ginting vs. Chen Long.
