The very first playoff game in his team’s history last Saturday against the Scwarco Raiders II knew that Vikings Division Team to use twice: Even before the game, the longtime fan and photographer Wolfgang Eroes thanked for his loyalty and commitment, in which he was allowed to carry the team flag at the entrance, the coaches stood guard and the team marched onto the field as one behind his “Woifal”. After this emotionally moving gesture, the division team then knew their own during the game sporting opportunities to use.
Already in the second drive, the Vikings marched deep into the Raiders’ red zone and stormed after a short pass Jakub Ovecka to the first Touchdown of the day, but the PAT failed. The defense held and in the next drive the offense marched across the entire field and tanked again Jakub Ovecka from a short distance into the end zone and ran the same immediately afterwards 2-Point-Conversion. Intercepted after a fruitless drive by the Vikings Renato Jaramillo a deep ball from the Raiders, but the refs decided on pass interference and the visitors kept possession. But now the defense was on fire: First it sagged Raúl Barroso the opposing quarterback deep in the opposing backfield and immediately afterwards, after a hard hit by the quarterback Josip Gazibaric, caught Paul Stegemann the interception. Starting at the Raiders’ 20 yards, the Vikings didn’t want to miss this opportunity, and in the end it was enough for a field goal. With just 27 seconds left on the clock Paulo Trindade the Raiders quarterback under a lot of pressure, Raúl Barroso tapped the ball Nicholas Galanos pecked it out of the air and ran with it from about 20 yards into the Endzone. After a successful PAT through Michael Tomasin it went with the comfortable 24:0 lead from the point of view of the Vikings in the half-time break.

The defense then also started the second half in a dominant manner: thanks to two offsides, they gave away a first down, but then tapped Christopher Leather a deep ball and Valentin Fischlmayr intercepted. After that, the offense – supported by two penalties against the Raiders – marched to just before the end zone and Simon Lassl threw up the final pass Dominik Steiner to the touchdown. After that, the Raiders put down their best drive, through two big plays they came into the red zone, they scored the goal with a pass and shortened it with a PAT 31:7. But the Vikings didn’t let that put them off their stride, almost immediately and with a deep pass Michael Tomasin scored the hosts. But the defense showed up again with fumble recovery Joseph Schreyer. After the last change of sides, the Vikings’ drive seemed to have stopped, but 4th and 7 scored through passes Nicholas Lechner again and now even kicked die Mercy Rule in Kraft. After a quick turnover on downs, the offense came back onto the field with 6 minutes on the clock. Djordje Djordjevic stormed in the first attempt to just before the end zone and then in the second attempt to Touchdown. The Raiders’ subsequent drive was stopped by the clock running out and the Vikings celebrated loudly “Si-Si-Simmering”-Don’t just call hers 50:7 Siegbut also the successful entry into the final of Division 3.

Although it was the very first playoff in team history and the Raiders were expected to be strong opponents, the players executed the Game plan on both sides of the ball almost perfectly. With the exception of the first drive, the offense produced the entire game on yards and scores and the Defense not only held, but was even able to score and produce two more turnovers. „Awesome, we wouldn’t have dared to dream of that at the beginning of the season. I’m very proud of my boys and coaches“praised Head coach Emmanuel Gatzakis his team immediately after the final whistle and with a view to the upcoming Challenge Bowl, he added: „One thing is clear: If you make it to the finals, then the gold medal must be the declared next goal. There is still a bit of room for improvement, the team has not yet reached its performance peak, despite today’s sensational victory. If we manage to extend our previous performance curve to the final, then anything is possible for us there as well.“
Opponents of the division team in the final of division 3 will be those already known from the basic round AFC Grizzlies from Stockerau, who bought their final ticket in the parallel game against the Predators Steyr with a 24:3 away win. The Division Team has already narrowly won twice this year (9:3, 14:13) against the Grizzlies, but as is well known, a final has its own rules. The AFBÖ should announce when and where the Challenge Bowl will take place in the coming days.
