Viking invites everyone to hike for a good cause

The organizer’s annual hiking marathon is scheduled for October 3rd, and this time it is being organized by three Viking trainees (photo). The nationwide campaign is under the motto “hikeandhelp24,” and anyone can take part after registering online and making a donation. No matter where, “every kilometer counts.”

100 percent of the entry fees go to the Peruvian Flora Circular project, which, according to Viking trainees, combines ecological, social and economic aspects. “It is a circular project: The Flora Circular team collects organic waste from three restaurants and uses it as compost in eight gardens. 53 families and a school grow vegetables on these areas under expert guidance,” says the organizer.

Those responsible addressed topics such as recycling and healthy eating. The sale of the vegetables is also a source of income for the families involved. The trainee group’s stated goal for the hiking marathon they are organizing in 2024 is to raise donations totaling 50,000 euros. “A lot can be achieved with that,” said the young tourist at Wikinger, hoping for as many participants as possible.
