Kerala wins the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Kerala defeated defending champions Saurashtra by 3 wickets in a thrilling match in Group A. Batting first, Kerala bowled out Saurashtra for 188 runs and won by losing 7 wickets in the 48th over. Abdul Basit scored 60 runs for Kerala. Akhin Sattar took 4 wickets in his maiden bowling match. The bowlers performed to confirm the decision of captain Sanju Samson who won the toss and put Saurashtra into bat. Eight of Saurashtra’s batsmen were out for a single run. Saurashtra slumped to 65 for the loss of seven wickets when Akhin, Basil Thambi and Akhil Scaria, who opened the bowling, smashed it. Vishwaraj Jadeja and captain Jaidev Unadkat came to the rescue in the eighth wicket. Unadkat (37) returned after a valuable partnership of 69 runs. Vishwaraj Jadeja took Saurashtra to 200 with aggressive batting. The player scored 98 runs in the first ball of the 50th over and was dismissed as the last wicket. Along with Akhil, Thampi and Shreyas Gopal took 2 wickets each in Basil and Akhil Skaria and NP Basil took 1 wicket each.

Kerala also got off to a poor start in the reply batting. Vishnu Vinod and Rohan Kunnummal were out after scoring 4 runs each. In the third wicket, Sanju Samson and Sachin Baby brought Kerala up to 52 runs. Sachin Baby was out after scoring 16 runs. Soon Sanju Samson (30) is also out. Kerala, which was reeling at 61 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, was rescued by the combination of Abdul Basit and Akhil Skaria in the fifth wicket. Basith, who swung the bat beautifully, led Kerala to victory and was dismissed. Soon Akhil Skaria (28) also returned.
