If someone hasn’t sent letters in a while or has forgotten what the combination of numbers means 3601, it is the postal code or code of the Ventspils Museum. So, Vijas Zariņa’s paintings are a kind of messages to Ventspils, the Kurzeme side. The artist herself also writes in the introduction to the exhibition: “In my painting, I give special importance to the landscape, not drawn from nature, but inspired by nature. I call them landscapes of my feelings.”
Vija Zariņa has created more than 30 solo exhibitions in the Latvian painting landscape, represented Latvia in group exhibitions as well – in Belgium, Italy, Germany, Estonia, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, etc. Since 2008, she has been an associate professor at the Painting Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts. The works are in the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art, the collection of the Latvian Union of Artists, the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, private collections in Latvia and abroad.
