The Fundación Banco de Alimentos de La Rioja, in collaboration with the Government of La Rioja through its Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, has organized the VIII Solidarity Drawing Contest ‘Food is not thrown away. Let’s take advantage of food’, aimed at students between 6 and 12 years old.
A call that aims to promote solidarity; educate to avoid food waste; promote participation and social cooperation among students and make schoolchildren aware of the people around us who are in need, such as the lack of basic food.
The result of this reflection will be the drawings made by the staff that the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth sent to all the schools in La Rioja so that the winning drawings of each of the categories can be turned into bookmarks that will be distributed among all participating schools. Students may use all kinds of material to carry out their work, but in the size of 297 mm x 90 mm, horizontally or vertically.
Of all the drawings received until April 21, a jury made up of two representatives of the Food Bank -one of them the artist from Rioja Taquio Uzqueda- and two from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth will select 60 finalist drawings on the 2nd May (15 by category of 1st and 2nd; 3 and 4; 5 and 6 of Primary and students of Special Education centers) that in addition to being exposed in the vicinity of the Assembly Hall of the Logroo Professional Music Conservatory where the delivery of trophies, receiving each of them: diploma, medal and gift. And the three winning drawings of each category, as well as school and sports supplies, donated by Santos Ochoa and Deportes Ferrer.
A total of 2,087 participants from 19 educational centers in La Rioja attended the call for the VII edition. Adding all the editions, it is confirmed that it is a fully consolidated contest since, in the seven editions carried out so far, a total of 144 schools have participated, contributing 11,704 drawings, with the winning drawings of each edition remaining for one year. , exhibited at the headquarters of the Food Bank.
In addition, the four regional winners will participate, representing La Rioja, in the National Competition of the Banco de Alimentos (Fesbal) chair and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
Parallel to this Contest, the Food Bank has opened the reserve of talks that volunteers have been offering in the different schools that request them to talk to students about the importance of making use of food.
