Abel Caballero is the mayor of Galicia with the highest salary, corresponding to his status as the most populous city in the community, although in percentage terms there are other councilmen with higher salaries in the province itself, such as Marín or Mos, among others. These are some of the data offered by the Ministry of Territorial Policy, which collects practically all councilors and presidents of deputations in 2018 in Spain, with some curious exceptions, such as Nigrán, Ponteareas or Ourense, which did not provide the data and it is necessary to take acquaintances. Caballero reaches 75,382 euros and behind is Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores, from the BNG, who despite governing the sixth city adds the second salary. The third municipal salary of Galicia is now for the mayor of A Coruña, the second municipality in population, the socialist Inés Rey, who debuted in office with a rise of close to 100 percent, from 40,000 to almost 70,000 euros. It was an agreement taken unanimously by the plenary session in A Coruña and which meant to cancel the previous one, from the mayor of Marea, who lowered his emoluments by 50 percent when he entered office four years ago. This was also done by his companion from Santiago, also from Las Mareas, which left him at 51,892.
In the province, the third place goes to Marín, whose mayor, who will now also be a deputy for the PP, María Ramallo, has the highest salary in proportion to the number of inhabitants, with 55,840 euros. Also noteworthy in the Vigo area are the salaries of other council members: Mos, with 48,676 for Nidia Arévalo, from the PP; or the 50,000 euros from the socialist Carlos Gómez, in Baiona and the 48,000 from Antonio Lomba, also from the PSOE, in A Guarda. The popular José Crespo has almost 49,000 in Lalín.
As for the deputations, the highest salary in Galicia is for the Vigo Carmela Silva, with 74,014 euros. Behind, Ourense, with 72,325, Coruña, with 65,831 and Lugo with 65,832.
In Spain, number 1 is in the Barcelona Provincial Council, which pockets more than 102,000 euros. All of them with exclusive dedication, which is the norm throughout Spain in large cities, with the exception of Oviedo (20,600 euros) and Teruel (11,893 euros), which are not exclusively dedicated to the consistory, according to this official report.
The most common salaries of these councilors range from 55,000 to 70,000 euros. Outstanding below in the national set are the cases of Zamora (33,214), Huesca (34,446) or Girona (39,692 euros), which also contrast with other salaries in their own autonomous communities. In Catalonia, Girona is located far from the almost 100,000 euros in Barcelona, but also from the 70,000 in Lleida. In Castilla y León, the Zamorano mayor charges less than half that of Valladolid (76,500) or Burgos (70,959), and is closer to those of Palencia and Soria.
