With bouquets of roses and other flowers, activists and residents of the area arrived at the 36th Street station on Monday to give a message against violence and request a stricter control on the carrying of light weapons.

They also prayed for the victims of the shooting in a subway car last week, when a subject threw smoke bombs in and began shooting indiscriminately.

One of the attendees shared his point of view: “There was a miracle on God’s part, because those indiscriminate shots were enough to hit someone and take their life.” While another person added: To join them and pray for them to continue to be well and mentally continue to recover. We hope that this helps us to unite more.”

The suspected gunman, identified as Frank James, was arrested and has been charged with terrorism and premeditated attempted murder. If found guilty, he could spend the rest of his life in federal prison.
