Viggo Kristiansen has been banned from contacting or seeking out the survivors after the murders in Baneheia.

Kristiansen, who has served almost 21 years for the Baneheia murders, became a free man late Tuesday night. He came home to the childhood home at Eg in Kristiansand on Wednesday night.

The restraining order applies to the parents and siblings of Stine Sofie Sørstrønen and Lena Sløgedal Paulsen who were killed in Baneheia on 19 May 2000.

– Viggo Kristiansen would never at any time contact any of those people, says defender Arvid Sjødin to VG.

The restraining order applies for one year in advance and is imposed at the request of the survivors. The Oslo Police District, which has made the decision, believes there is reason to believe that Viggo Kristiansen will otherwise violate the peace of the bereaved.

A restraining order can be appealed and Sjødin warns that it will happen in this case.

He has so far asked the police to elaborate on why they believe there is “reason to believe that Viggo Kristiansen will violate the peace of the bereaved”.

– Even if an overriding probability is not required for such an action to take place, there must be an imminent and real risk. This risk must be assessed on the basis of previous actions or threats, Sjødin tells VG.

At the same time as Kristiansen was informed of the restraining order, he was also asked by the Oslo police district to take a new DNA sample.

Kristiansen has always claimed his innocence, and in February 2021, the Readmission Commission decided that the criminal case shall be re-examined.

On Tuesday, it was decided by a unanimous Supreme Court that Kristiansen is released with immediate effect.

The prosecution announced this week that they would not request that the detention sentence against Kristiansen be extended. It would have expired in September this year.

In its decision, the Supreme Court pointed out that this would mean that Kristiansen will in any case be released shortly because he has served 21 years.

It was TV 2 that first announced the curfew.

The case is being updated.
