Vålerenga’s Dutch midfield profile returns home after the current season.
Vålerenga writes this on its website. Family priorities are highlighted as one of the main reasons.
– It started first and foremost with the corona eruption. I had just played a match with the national team and when the “lockdown” in Europe came, Jolien (Sherida’s wife editor’s note) and I stayed in the Netherlands with our two children. For so long, I have never been home with the family in our own house, and it gave a good feeling, says Spitse in the press release.
– We went back to Norway and when we were going back for a trip to the Netherlands again, my son Jens said “I am so happy because we are going to the Netherlands”. It affected me a lot.
Spitse is one of the biggest profiles in the Toppserien. She joined the club as a new European Championship winner ahead of the 2018 season. She became the top scorer in the first season and was named player of the year in the Toppserien in her second. Then Vålerenga took silver.
From 2014 to 2017, she was one of LSK Women’s most important players. From 2014 to 2016, she became both league and cup champion with the yellow jerseys.
She has also won the domestic league in the Netherlands with FC Twente.
– She leaves a big footprint here. When Sherida as captain and leader leaves after the season, it will also mean that other players will be able to flourish in her place, so that the good development and the journey will continue with new forward-looking leaders, says sports manager in Vålerenga, Eli Landsem.
