Production company Filmaatsten producer Juha-Pekka Ristmeri says that the recent episode fell under the grip of exceptional censorship.

– It is the production’s responsibility to try to protect those who appear in the series, especially children, as much as possible. It is very unusual to have to leave filmed content out of the program in post-production because an event or the content of the filmed material is ethically, morally or criminally problematic, he tells Iltalehte.

– We have had to act like this very rarely. Now we act.

According to Ristmere, the points to be censored were few in number, but they were significant in terms of severity. He says the production can’t reveal details about what was left out of the finished episode.

– After the demanding and successful work of the director and editor, there was no need to think about whether the episode can be published at all. The episode was also publishable according to the wedding couple. They thought it was good, he says.

The producer stresses that so far all filmed episodes belonging to the Unelmahäät and Satuhäät concepts have been published. He also has an answer for those wondering on social media why this kind of content is shown on TV.

– People from different socio-economic groups are seen as the main characters of our documentary reality. The purpose of the series is not to judge or glorify them, but to present them as they are. The couples and wedding guests themselves create their “characters” with their own performance and actions, because the series is made from the material filmed in post-production. The cameramen act as recorders in the production, he explains.

The Dream Wedding program is shown on Monday evenings on TV5 at 21:00, and the episodes can be watched on the HBO Max service.
