On Astrid Lindgren’s official website there has been a heading called ‘Popular but wrong quotes’ for some time now, which also includes the famous quote. “This quote is often attributed to Pippi Longstocking, but Astrid Lindgren (who died in 2002, ed.) never wrote that sentence, and there is no source that confirms that it is Longstocking’s words,” the statement reads. on the website.

It would therefore have been easy to find out whether the quote actually comes from Pippi Longstocking, but apparently that has not been done. Viewers expressed their displeasure on Twitter.
