View the corona figures of April 26 in five graphs NOW

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) publishes an overview of figures on the corona crisis in the Netherlands every day. NU.nl brings together the most figures that are now known (Sunday, April 26) in five graphs.

  • NU.nl received several complaints about the visibility of graphs in the app. This problem has since been solved.

Fewer new hospitalizations and deaths reported

RIVM reports 66 new deaths from the coronavirus on Sunday. That is less than a week ago when 83 new deaths were reported. A drop is also visible in the number of new hospital admissions. Last week RIVM reported 110 new hospital admissions, on Sunday there were 75.

The decreases in both newly reported hospital admissions and deaths show, according to RIVM, that the corona measures have an effect.

The figures from the daily update of the RIVM do not correspond to the actual number of hospital admissions and deaths on that day. There is a delay between the actual moment of death and the moment when the notification of death comes to RIVM. This also applies to the number of hospital admissions.

The table below shows the actual number of deaths and hospital admissions by date. This number may increase, as the data from past days is not yet complete.

Incidentally, the actual number of deaths is greater than RIVM reports, because not everyone who dies from COVID-19 has also been tested.

Slight decrease in number of Dutch corona patients on ICs

The number of Dutch corona patients in intensive care (IC) fell slightly again on Sunday. At present, 901 Dutch corona patients are on Dutch ICs and 33 on German ICs.

This decrease is “in line with expectations”, according to the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS). The number of IC patients has been decreasing daily since April 12, which can also be seen in the graph below.

East Brabant and Limburg remain epicenter virus

The map below shows the total number of hospital admissions per 100,000 inhabitants per municipality. This clearly shows that East Brabant and North Limburg are still the epicenter of the virus outbreak in the Netherlands.

It is striking that Oudewater (Utrecht) and Heerde (Gelderland) have also been hit by the virus.

The data for each municipality appears when you click on a municipality in the map or enter it in the search bar.

Most deaths between the ages of 85 and 89

Of all reported deaths on Sunday, 21.7 percent were between 85 and 89 years old. On average, half of the number of corona patients who die is aged 82 or older.

The youngest patient to die was eighteen or nineteen years old. According to the RIVM, this person had underlying health problems.

If we look at the figures so far (blue is hospital admissions, red deaths), we see that this person is the youngest person to date who died of the coronavirus in the Netherlands.

More men died of viruses, women test positive more often

About six in ten corona patients who died were male. In hospital admissions, the male-female ratio is roughly the same. Still, there are more positively tested women than men. In this article we explain how this works.

The majority of all infected health care workers are women and half are under 45 years old. This is most likely because women are overrepresented in health care professions.

Since April 6, healthcare personnel can be tested more often, because the cabinet has expanded the testing capacity. As a result, women now test positive for the coronavirus much more often than men, while this ratio was previously about fifty-fifty. Recently, some 40,000 people have been tested for the virus every week.
