MEDIA Vietnam, Zing News, panicked to see Asnawi Mangkualam has been training with the Indonesian U-23 national team squad in Jakarta SEA Games 2021. Zing News said Asnawi Mangkualam is one of the best players they have Indonesian National Team U-23 asuhan Shin Tae-yong.
Asnawi Mangkualam was late in joining the U-23 Indonesian National Team because he had to defend his club, Ansan Greeners. As a result, he was absent when the Indonesian U-23 national team lost 0-3 to Vietnam in the inaugural match of Group A of the 2021 SEA Games, Friday 6 May 2022 evening WIB.

However, currently the former PSM Makassar member has joined the Garuda Muda Squad. Asnawi Mangkualam arrived in Vietnam on Sunday, May 8, 2022.
Upon arrival in Vietnam, Asnawi Mangkualam was immediately warmly welcomed by Shin Tae-yong and his colleagues in the U-23 Indonesian National Team. In the afternoon, Asnawi Mangkualam immediately joined the training session with the U-23 Indonesian National Team.
This exercise was held by Shin Tae-yong as a preparation for the Young Garuda Squad which will meet the U-23 Timor Leste National Team on Tuesday 10 May 2022 at 19.00 WIB. Asnawi’s arrival immediately received the spotlight from Zingnews.
The Vietnamese media wrote that Asnawi is one of the important pillars for the U-23 Indonesian National Team. Not only that, Zingnews believes that Asnawi Mangkualam can strengthen the Garuda Muda squad’s defense line.
“Asnawi, who was born in 1999, is the captain of the U23 Indonesian National Team, one of the best players in defense under coach Shin Tae-yong,” Zingnews wrote on its official website, quoted on Monday (9/5/2022).
Zingnews’ opinion is certainly not without basis. Asnawi Mangkualam is one of the key figures who brought the Indonesian national team to the 2020 AFF Cup final.
Unfortunately, they were defeated by Thailand in the final 2-6 on aggregate. Furthermore, Asnawi Mangkualam hope it can help the back line Indonesian National Team U-23 in the remaining three matches in the group stage.
