In a meeting with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Papua New Guinea, James Marape, Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam wishes to strengthen its relations with the South Pacific island countries, including Papua New Guinea. -Guinea, affirming that there was ample room for bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of economy, trade, agriculture and fisheries.

For his part, James Marape said that Papua New Guinea invites Vietnamese companies to invest in fisheries, agriculture, oil and gas, and the country will send delegations of officials and companies to the Southeast Asian nation to explore cooperation opportunities.

The Vietnamese foreign minister proposed that the two sides study the establishment of appropriate cooperation mechanisms and implement the already signed memorandum of understanding on fisheries cooperation, including the formation of a technical committee. joint. He also suggested promoting negotiations and signing relevant documents in other key areas, which will serve as the basis for further collaboration.

Welcoming Papua New Guinea’s contributions as an ASEAN Special Observer, Bui Thanh Son stressed that the two sides should continue their close coordination and mutual support in regional and international forums, especially within mechanisms led by ASEAN, the United Nations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

While meeting with Canadian Minister Mélanie Joly, the two ministers highly appreciated the positive development of the Vietnam-Canada comprehensive partnership over the past few years, agreed on the need to put forward new directions that correspond to the regional situation and internationally as well as at the level of their reports.

For her part, Mélanie Joly affirmed that Vietnam is one of Canada’s top three priority partners in the region, affirming that the two parties will promote exchanges of delegations at all levels, further exploit their economic and commercial potential through the materialization of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and consider expanding cooperation in areas such as green energy and clean energy, and maritime collaboration.

Bui Thanh Son proposed that Canada create more favorable conditions and provide more scholarships for Vietnamese students, while helping Vietnamese citizens to live, study and work in the country, thus contributing to the development of Canada as well as to bilateral friendship.

On this occasion, he also had a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during which the two ministers agreed to intensify exchanges of delegations at all levels, effectively implement cooperation mechanisms bilaterally, to optimize the potential for cooperation and to strengthen cultural and popular exchanges.
