New York, September 24 (VNA) – Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Qatar, Belarus, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.
These separate meetings were held on September 23 (local time) as part of the participation of the high-level Vietnamese delegation to the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.
During the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Vietnamese foreign minister underlined the potential of bilateral cooperation, and offered to prepare the third session of the Joint Committee and the Second Political Consultation between the two countries.
Bui Thanh Son called on Qatar to promote cooperation with his country in the energy sector, the supply of liquefied gas and continue to receive skilled Vietnamese workers to work in the oil field of this country.

During the meeting with Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, Minister Bui Thanh Son called for the expansion and deepening of bilateral cooperation, especially in the economic and commercial fields, promoting the exchange of delegations, and at the same time called on this European country to support Vietnam’s candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council for the period 2023-2025.
Speaking to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Côte d’Ivoire, Kandia Kamissoko Camara, Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam attaches to the promotion of relations with the traditional friends of Africa, including Côte d’Ivoire.
The Vietnamese official expressed his willingness for the two countries to promote cooperation in the fields of agriculture, trade, energy, education and training.
During a meeting with his Cameroonian counterpart, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, the Vietnamese minister proposed to promote bilateral cooperation in trade and agriculture, as well as to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese investments in this African country.
Bui Thanh Son also met the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Christophe Lutundula. He affirmed the will of his country to accompany and send agricultural experts to this country, and to strengthen bilateral cooperation links in the field of agriculture, mining, health, education and training, as well as mutual support in international forums.
During the meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of the UN and also Director General of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Achim Steiner, the Vietnamese foreign minister appreciated the active and effective support of this organization in Vietnam .
He welcomed the fact that the UNDP gives priority to bilateral cooperation to reduce poverty and stimulate economic recovery after the crisis, as well as the development of renewable energies.
On this occasion, Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his hope that the UNDP will continue to support his country by advising on policies and measures aimed at adapting to climate change, recovery and socio-economic development.
In turn, Achim Steiner pledged to support Vietnam in the areas of green growth, institutional modernization, promotion of renewal and creativity, adaptation to climate change, among other sectors.
On the same day, Bui Thanh Son also attended the virtual and in-person conference of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the United States, in which he praised the active contribution and responsible for the United States in maintaining peace, stability and cooperation in the region.
He highly appreciated Washington’s effective support to ASEAN countries in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic, and also urged the United States to continue to prioritize the provision of vaccines against the Covide-19 for member countries of the bloc.
On the same day, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang also participated in the Ministerial Conference of the Alliance for Multilateralism, co-chaired by the Foreign Ministers of France and Germany.
Speaking at the Conference, Dang Hoang Giang stressed that Vietnam called on the international community to remove all obstacles related to the supply of COVID-19 vaccines, to strengthen cooperation in the transfer of technology for production of this drug and to regard the vaccine as a treasure of the global commons.
He also called for promoting international cooperation to ensure equitable and full access to vaccines, oxygen, test kits and medical equipment, in addition to exchanging experiences and supporting developing countries in the areas health, economy and environment, among others – VNA
