Vietnam U-16 National Team made it to the final AFF U-16 Cup 2022 after beating Thailand in the semifinals.
Vietnam successfully silenced Thailand with a score of 2-0 in the semifinal match of the 2022 AFF U-16 Cup which was held at the Maguwoharjo Stadium, Sleman, Wednesday (10/8) afternoon.
Vietnam started the match by playing more actively by playing fast games.

While Thailand played slower to secure possession of the ball to dampen Vietnam’s pace.
In the 16th minute Vietnam had a chance after their striker Phan Thanh Duc Thien had faced the Thai goalkeeper, but quickly the Thai defender came to cut the ball from Duc Thien’s feet.
In the 18th minute Thailand opened up opportunities through a free kick. However, Saranyawat Naprasen’s shot still slid thin over the Vietnam crossbar.
In the 30th minute Vietnam was finally able to take the lead through Nguyen Cong Phuong’s goal. Starting from a Thai defender’s mistake in throwing the ball away, Cong Phuong who got a wild ball was able to fire a shot aimed at the corner of the opponent’s goal which the Thai goalkeeper couldn’t stop.
The first round of the 2022 AFF U-16 Cup semifinal between Thailand vs Vietnam closed with the advantage of Nguyen Quoc Tuan’s team with a score of 1-0.
In the second half Thailand played faster to catch up. In the 50th minute Thailand tried to launch an attack through Ratthathammanun Deeying’s shot, but his shot was still blocked by a Vietnamese defender.
In the middle of the second half Vietnam began to play more defensively by piling up seven players in the defense area.
This situation was used by Thailand to control the ball and attack Vietnam’s defense. However, until the match ended there were no goals that Thailand could create.
On the other hand, Vietnam managed to increase the score in the 83rd minute through Nguyen Trong Tuan’s goal. Starting from his teammate’s bait on the left wing, Trong Tuan who was standing in the penalty box was able to head the ball into the bottom corner of the Thai goal and could not be reached by the opposing goalkeeper.
Vietnam also closed the match with a 2-0 win over Thailand and successfully advanced to the 2022 AFF U-16 Cup final.
In the final match which will take place at the Maguwoharjo Stadium, Sleman, Friday (12/8), Vietnam will meet the winner of the semifinals of Indonesia vs Myanmar which will take place on Wednesday (10/8) night.
