Vietnam Takes Action to Finance TB Testing and Treatments with Medical Insurance Cover

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on Monday, April 8 in Hanoi urged the Ministry of Health, in coordination with Vietnam Social Insurance and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, to seek plans to finance the costs of TB testing and cover all TB patients with medical insurance.

He also urged them to conduct centralized tenders to secure enough drugs, supplies and medical equipment to end TB, during the conference to roll out the 2024 work of the National Committee to End TB. to tuberculosis.

He asked the Ministry of Health to continue to systematically, precisely and methodically update the tuberculosis situation in Vietnam (detection rate of new infections, effectiveness of treatments, number of deaths, etc.) as well as the recommendations for ‘International organisations.

He tasked the Ministry of Health to prepare human resources and medical equipment to deploy a national survey on the tuberculosis in 2025, to promote international cooperation and technology transfer for rapid and massive screening…

Deputy Health Minister Tran Van Thuan cited the WHO report estimating that in 2022, Vietnam will detect 172,000 tuberculosis patients and around 13,000 deaths. Vietnam is currently ranked 11th among 30 countries in the world with the highest burden of tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. The treatment success rate is maintained at a high level, above 90%.

Currently, the Vietnamese National Tuberculosis Control Program is implementing comprehensive interventions to improve early detection, especially in high-risk groups (prisoners, elderly people, children and HIV-infected people…); applies advanced techniques, treatment regimens and the latest medications. -VNA
