Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam attaches great importance to economic, trade and investment cooperation with Russian localities, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Ngo Duc Manh.

The Vietnamese diplomat made the statement during his meetings with the governors of the Russian provinces of Kursk and Briansk during his visits to these localities on March 23 and 24, as part of activities aimed at further strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and Russia in general and their localities in particular.

Ngo Duc Manh and the governor of the Kursk region, Roman Starovoit, during their meeting, welcomed the growing development of the comprehensive Vietnam-Russia strategic partnership in recent times.

Roman Starovoit called on Vietnamese companies to increase their investments in promising sectors such as agriculture and tourism.

In 2020, the sales turnover between Kursk and Vietnam reached $ 30 million, he said.

Meanwhile, Bryansk Province Governor Alexander Bogomaz briefed on the socio-economic development of the locality, noting that the Russian locality still maintains positive growth despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He thanked the Vietnamese diplomat and relevant agencies for their efforts to promote cooperation between enterprises of the two countries, especially in the agricultural sector.

For his part, the Vietnamese diplomat said he was satisfied with the cooperation agreement of the province of Kursk with the Vietnamese province of Ninh Thuan (South).

He thanked the authorities of the two Russian localities for having supported the Vietnamese community to ensure a stable life in Russia.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the value of trade between Vietnam and Russia increased by 8% to $ 5 billion. In the first two months of this year, it jumped more than 30%, reaching nearly $ 800 million.

On this occasion, the delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy visited food processing establishments, livestock and poultry production complexes of the Miratorg group in Kursk and Bryansk.-VNA
