Vietnam Ministry of Health and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety agreed to hold ‘regular meeting at director level in the field of pharmaceuticals’

Expectations are high that exports of Vietnamese domestic medicines, which ranked 8th in domestic pharmaceutical exports in 2021, will increase further.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (Minister Oh Yoo-gyeong) dispatched the ‘public-private joint pharmaceutical advance support group (hereafter referred to as the advance support group)’ to Vietnam from the 6th to the 7th as part of follow-up measures for a state visit to Vietnam, along with the Korean Embassy in Vietnam. They met with high-ranking officials of the pharmaceutical authorities and discussed specific measures to strengthen cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector between Korea and Vietnam.

The entry support group consisted of a total of 30 people, including 6 people, including the director of the Drug Safety Bureau of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, 3 people, including the vice president of the Korea Pharmaceutical Bio Association, 2 professors from domestic pharmacies, and 10 companies planning to enter Vietnam.

On the morning of the 6th, a delegation from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety had a meeting with Do Xuan Tuyen, Vice Minister of Health (MoH) of Vietnam. It was agreed to hold regular meetings at the director level in the pharmaceutical field to strengthen

In the afternoon of the same day, at a bilateral meeting with Nguyen Thanh Lam, Deputy Director General, who is in charge of drug licensing of the Vietnam Drug Regulatory Authority (DAV), the international status of Korea’s drug approval and management system was emphasized, and excellent K-drugs were quickly approved. DAV said it expressed a positive position on this.

DAV revealed plans to revise laws and regulations related to pharmaceuticals in its own country, requested that Korea share its high-level drug safety management laws and system operation experience, and received PIC/s certification, which DAV will conduct in Korea in the future. By actively participating in education, the two countries agreed to continue cooperation in revamping Vietnam’s pharmaceutical laws and regulations.

Meanwhile, a total of 120 people from the governments, industries, and academia of the two countries attended the ‘Korea-Vietnam Joint Symposium’ held in Hanoi, Vietnam on the 6th to share technology and research trends in the global pharmaceutical industry and discuss cooperation strategies between the government and companies. .

In this symposium, Korea’s drug regulation revision and policy directions were directly explained, and future visions for the pharmaceutical and bio sectors were discussed.

Commenting on the symposium, Deputy Director Nguyen Thanh Lam said, “It was a good opportunity for the governments and industries of the two countries to come together to enhance mutual understanding of each country’s pharmaceutical systems and build and strengthen networks.” We expect it to develop further,” he said.

On the 7th, a meeting was held in Ho Chi Minh City with domestic pharmaceutical companies that had entered Vietnam or wished to enter Vietnam, to listen to their difficulties and share their experience of entering Vietnam.

Korean companies requested that the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety continue to support and play a role in strengthening exchanges to expand entry into emerging markets, such as the visit to Vietnam by the entry support group.

Kang Seok-yeon, head of the Pharmaceutical Safety Bureau, said, “The visit of the support group is very meaningful in that it provided an opportunity to discuss cooperation plans by meeting directly with Vietnamese regulators, which is difficult for the industry to meet in Vietnam, one of the major export markets for pharmaceuticals.” We will make various efforts so that this cooperation can produce tangible results in a short period of time.”

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, “We expect that this visit to Vietnam will contribute to expanding the entry of excellent K-pharmaceuticals into the Vietnamese market and realizing the government’s national goal of ‘a dynamic economy led by the private sector and pushed by the government.” “We will actively support domestic pharmaceutical and bio companies to advance into overseas markets.”
