Vietnam, DPRK pledge to strengthen ties

Bui Thanh Son hailed the significance of the visit ahead of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year, suggesting that the two foreign ministries maintain close coordination, facilitate delegation exchanges at all levels to enhance friendship, mutual understanding and trust, and effectively implement existing cooperation agreements.

The Vietnamese leader also called for continued collaboration in global and regional forums to contribute to maintaining regional and global peace, stability, cooperation and development. Pak Sang Gil hailed Vietnam’s recent socio-economic achievements, especially its post-COVID-19 recovery efforts. He commended Vietnam’s efforts to strengthen and expand diplomatic relations with many countries around the world, which has elevated its international stature.

On the morning of September 10, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Thanh Binh held talks with his counterpart Pak Sang Gil. The two sides agreed to jointly prepare for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year. The focus will be on increasing delegation exchanges and exploring potential cooperation in mutually beneficial fields in line with international regulations. The discussions also touched on the global situation and issues of mutual interest.

Pham Thanh Binh affirmed Vietnam’s consistent position on valuing the traditional friendship between the two countries, a bond personally established and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kim Il Sung, and continuously preserved, inherited and promoted by successive generations of leaders and people of the two nations. He stressed Vietnam’s willingness to work closely with the DPRK to further develop bilateral relations in various fields, in line with the aspirations of their peoples, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and beyond.

Pak Sang Gil stressed that relations between the two countries have entered a new stage of development since the official visit to Vietnam by General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of the DPRK and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong-un in March 2019. He affirmed the DPRK’s consistent position on maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations in a solid and substantive manner. During his stay, Pak Sang Gil paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Hanoi and visited several localities.
