Vietnam continues to restrict internet freedom

Unlike China, Vietnam does not have a “great firewall”. However, the situation regarding internet freedom is very bad in the Southeast Asian country. Now the clamping screw is turned again.

Hammer, sickle, cell phone: the Communist government of Vietnam wants to control the flow of information in the digital space.

The Communist Party of Vietnam wants to further restrict Internet freedom. By the end of the year there should be a regulation on which accounts can post news on social networks, reports the Reuters news agency; refers to three unknown people who are involved in the proceedings. The government of Vietnam wants the rules of the analog world in which state media the news disseminate, broadcast on the Internet. For platforms like Facebook and YouTube, popular in Vietnam, the already immense moderation effort will increase once the regulation goes into effect. They will have to ban accounts that violate the new regulation.
