The Viennese start-up Happy Plates takes over a popular recipe website. The purchase was in early 2023
The Viennese start-up Happy Plates has the online recipe site ichkoche.at acquired from the Styria Media Group. The sale to the recipe page with a link to online shops from supermarkets took place in early 2023, as the Styria Group confirmed to the APA.
As is often the case in start-up circles, it was agreed not to disclose the purchase price, according to the “Trending Topics” platform. “We want to get the brand and strengthen it throughout the German-speaking area,” said Happy Plates Managing Director Simon Jacko.
Buy and cook
The Happy Plates concept is as follows: Users who are looking for recipes online can purchase the necessary ingredients directly from an online shop. Rewe, Spar or gurkerl.at are already available on the in-house recipe page of the start-up founded in 2018. With the HappyCart brand, Happy Plates also offers this service to other website operators.
In order to take over ichkoche.at and expand the business, Happy Plates is said to have made an investment of millions, Trending Topics reported. The goal is to modernize ichkoche.at visually and technically. The integration of a “buy” button is almost complete, soon you can order the ingredients of the recipes directly online from the supermarkets.
Happy Plates then receives a brokerage commission from the supermarkets for the orders. “It comes down to advertising, but nicer advertising than you often see on these big publisher sites,” said Jacko.
