Viennese libraries offer digital services free of charge

You no longer have to worry about the reading material going out at home: the libraries of the City of Vienna are now making their digital offer available free of charge. So that people without a library card can use it, there is an informal way to apply for access from Monday. Just send an email to register. The offer is valid until the libraries open again.

“Whoever runs out of reading material or who wants to discover new media can now choose from over 70,000 media – from eBooks to ePapers to eAudios”, said Jürgen Czernohorszky (SPÖ), City Councilor for Education, on Sunday.

If you want to use the digital offer of the libraries, you have to send an e-mail to [email protected]. The letter must contain the following information: First name, last name, date of birth and email address. If possible, access will be activated the next working day, it said in the broadcast. This activation is valid as long as the libraries are closed.

The virtual library comprises 60,000 digital media (eBooks, ePapers, eAudios, eLearning). The eMedia can include can be used on e-book readers, tablets or smartphones. For technical reasons, the library service does not work on Amazon’s Kindle.

E-books can be borrowed for a maximum of 21 days. The return takes place automatically. With the library card there is also access to the Overdrive eLibrary, with English reading and audio offerings and the digital newspaper stands Austria-Kiosk and PressReader. (apa)
