Vienna (OTS / RK) – With Vienna’s election as “Best Holiday Destination 2021” by the major travel magazine “Wi Trip”, the Chinese market is sending a signal of a strong return in tourism. WienTourismus has already started to prepare the media and the travel industry in China for future trips. Before the corona pandemic, China was one of the most important markets of origin.
The travel medium Wi Trip, which is important in the premium segment, published its 40 top travel destinations last week. Destinations were selected in four categories to serve as inspiration for travel after the pandemic. Vienna was able to assert itself in the “Best Holiday Destination” category and came first ahead of well-known competing destinations such as Scotland, Queensland or popular Chinese domestic destinations. Despite the long journey and the visa requirement, the city’s culture and premium offerings were convincing enough for the jury. which was made up of tourism specialist media, influencers and tourism experts.
Hybrid marketing in pandemic times
WienTourismus stayed in contact with its international partners even during the pandemic and provided information digitally and via live formats about news and future travel opportunities. On June 2, a hybrid press event took place in Shanghai and Beijing, at which, in cooperation with Julius Meinl, the Viennese coffee house culture was presented live with Viennese coffee specialties and pastries. While 20 selected travel journalists and influencers took part on site or online, a live stream from Vienna led behind the scenes of the Viennese porcelain manufacturer “Feine Dinge”.
Tourism director Norbert Kettner: “Even in difficult times, we kept in constant contact with our international partners. For a rapid recovery and a continuation of past successes, the overseas markets in particular are needed as strong revenue generators, which makes the signals from China, which before the pandemic was the second strongest long-distance market for Vienna’s tourism, all the more encouraging. China also plays an important role for the conference area: Specifically, an incentive trip with 3,000 participants from China is already on the order books in spring 2022. ”
About the Chinese market
With over half a million overnight stays, China was Vienna’s second largest long-distance market after the USA before the Covid 19 pandemic. In 2019, the increase in Chinese guests in the Vienna 5-star hotels was particularly large at 30%. After London and Paris, the greater Vienna area was the third most visited city destination for Chinese guests in Europe. An incentive trip with 3,000 participants from China in spring 2022 promises hope of a strong return on the market. The cosmetics group Nu Skin Enterprises is inviting its 3,000 best salespeople on a four-day trip to Vienna. In an intensive acquisition process, Vienna prevailed against the rival cities of London, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Prague and Dubai and thus secured the largest incentive trip from China to date for the Viennese visitor economy.
