The CGT Health and Social Action called on the staff of hospitals and health establishments to mobilize this Thursday to request additional resources. In Vienna, around thirty activists took turns in front of the Lucien-Hussel hospital, between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
“We’ve been pulling the rope for years,” laments Samy Gacem, secretary general of the CGT at the Vienna hospital. “We need more staff (nursing assistants, nurses, doctors), decent working conditions so that we can treat our patients in a correct way, more beds… We deplore the lack of training, the flight of doctors who no longer want to work in such conditions. “

A need for massive hiring
Concretely, the union therefore calls for “creation of beds in hospitals”, but also for “massive hiring in all sectors of health, social and medico-social”. According to the CGT, hospitals would thus need no less than 100,000 additional jobs, when it would take 200,000 for nursing homes. The union also calls for a work organization allowing a dignified care of the users and for “a human direction of the resources”.
While since the first confinement, the medical staff have often been described as heroic, the slogan is now clear: “These are not medals you need, but means”, we can read on the press release to staff. “Everyone thinks that the health system can meet the needs today, but it is not,” warns Samy Gacem. “If we had enough caregivers and beds, we would manage the crisis differently. This first day of mobilization of the year will therefore certainly not be the last.
A similar gathering was also held at Péage-de-Roussillon, where the controversial Hercules project, which is to restructure EDF, was also discussed.
