Among the stars of the celebration, who had the honor of opening the ball, the famous Latvian opera singer Elīna Garanča, the owner of a mezzo-soprano voice, and the world-famous tenor Piotrs Bečala, who performed arias from the operas “Carmen” and “Don Carlos”, shone brightly.
The first waltz was danced by debutantes – 144 couples – young people for whom this is their first Viennese ball.
The opera ball was attended by politicians, businessmen, people from cultural circles and representatives of show business. Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen had invited his Montenegrin counterpart, President Jakov Milatović. On the other hand, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nähammer accompanied Estonian Prime Minister Kai Kallas and her spouse.
Nähammer said: “I am very pleased that the Prime Minister of Estonia is with us. We have many things in common in the European Union and also many differences. And this makes the European Union interesting and diverse. And the ball also expresses this in the many musical variations.”
The Vienna Opera Ball was held for the 66th time. Tickets for it are sold out in a flash. The most expensive cost 23,000 euros. Every year, a large police force is deployed for the security of the guests. More than 400 policemen were on duty in and around the Vienna Opera House on Thursday.
