Vienna’s sports councilor Peter Hacker gave the starting signal for the marathon at 9 a.m. sharp.

At the start on Wagramer Straße, four people tried to cling to the street between starting blocks 1 and 2. However, two were already recognized and intercepted by the police on the way, the other two were prevented from sticking, reported Florian Wagner, spokesman for the “Last Generation”.

It was decided to get active at the start before the runners set off, as otherwise it would be too dangerous for everyone involved. Unfortunately, the faces of many activists were already known to the police, which is why the protest could not go ahead as planned.
