Vienna (OTS) – Let’s go this summer with a magical magic travel case and the City of Vienna Libraries. Adventure and the fantastic await all those who – whether in the park, in the mountains or swimming in the swimming pool – let themselves be carried away with the summer reading club of the libraries. From Monday, June 13, children and young people can look forward to reading, listening and playing material and a special collecting adventure in the libraries. With the sticker booklet, which is available in every library in the city of Vienna, you can collect stickers until September 16th. At the end there are not only prizes to be won, but also a reading certificate to be picked up. The story for the Pickerlbuch was designed by the award-winning author and illustrator Raffaela Schöbitz. She takes her young readers on a magical journey with “Grandfather’s Magic Travel Suitcase”.
Deputy Mayor and City Councilor for Education and Youth Christoph Wiederkehr: “With the summer reading club of the libraries, we playfully motivate children and young people to read, even during the holiday season. Reading not only improves vocabulary, comprehension and creativity, but it should also be fun! Because as soon as children and young people understand what incredible stories are hidden in books, you quickly win new reading fans!
If you read in summer, you will be ahead in autumn
The Summer Reading Club not only offers leisure time fun. The reading certificate, which is included in the sticker booklet, can be presented at school as proof of extracurricular engagement in reading. So if you show your reading certificate in the new school year, you have not only spent exciting and entertaining hours, but also have advantages in the classroom. The Libraries’ Summer Reading Club is supported by the Education Directorate for Vienna. The Summer Reading Club has been taking place in Vienna since the summer of 2012. Last year, over 800 children took part and read and rated a total of more than 6,500 books.
This is how the Summer Reading Club 2022 works
From June 13, 2021, children and young people between the ages of 6 and 14 can get a sticker booklet in any library. A valid library card is required. This is also easy to organise, because the library card is free for everyone up to the age of 18. Then it’s time to choose something in the library (books and comics, magazines and eBooks, eAudios and audio books, music and console games, films or events). Tell us afterwards how you liked it and fill out an evaluation form. For each rating there is an envelope with three surprise stickers for the sticker booklet. At the end, everyone who has submitted a review in one of the libraries by September 16th will be entered into a prize draw. As always, there are small prizes to be won, including many books, of course. To make it easier to fill the booklet, exchanges are held in the libraries throughout the summer.
