Vienna – For three months there was a “Red Box” with free menstrual items in a Bipa branch in Vienna-Brigittenau. Around 80,000 tampons and 95,000 sanitary pads were handed out during this time. The pilot project is scheduled to be rolled out across Vienna from mid-October. “Girls and women who need support will then receive a voucher booklet for free period products in youth centers and social markets,” says a statement from the deputy mayor and women’s city councilor Kathrin Gaál (SPÖ). The vouchers can then be exchanged for products from the box in all Bipa branches in Vienna.
