As in previous years, some Wien Holding companies took part in Vienna Girls’ Day 2024 on April 25.
The stated aim of Girls’ Day is to widen the range of career options for girls and to get to know the day-to-day work of the participating companies. For the DDSG Blue Danube, the Hafen Wien, the Mozarthaus Vienna, the Wiener Stadthalle, the Jewish Museum Vienna, the Private University of Music and Arts of the City of Vienna and for WH Media with the city television W24 it was a great opportunity recruiting young girls so that their company would be interested.
On the command bridge of the DDSG Blue Danube
At the DDSG Blue Danube, the 46 ambitious Young Girls’ Day participants received an educational morning on board the MS Vienna, where they followed detailed presentations from the training manager and fleet captain and took part in practical sea exercises themselves, like a knot. – connecting. The main special events were the boat trip on the Danube, which was also used to find out how good those who attended were, and the trip to the command bridge.
“I never realized how versatile and interesting a career in inland shipping could be. Today we not only learned theory, but also experienced what it means to sail on the Danube. “It’s encouraging to see what doors might open for us here,” said one participant.
In the end, the participants gained a well-founded outlook on future career opportunities. They were told in detail about the three-year apprenticeship and the various professional positions at DDSG Blue Danube. After successfully completing their training, women have the opportunity to take responsibility for the ship, crew and passengers as sailors and in senior positions as captains.
Logistics and customer node at the Port of Vienna
The Port of Vienna was again a partner company and opened its doors to around 25 girls aged between 11 and 16. During breakfast together and a tour afterwards of one of the two salt storage halls – this is the salt storage facility largest road in eastern Austria – the girls were able to get an idea of the logistics center of the Port of Vienna. Girls’ Day ended with a royal tour with the main event of the program “Knot Science Workshop: Show off your technical skills“. This year’s Girl’s Day came to a successful conclusion with a final quiz in which the best girls were able to grab Hafen’s great opportunity. Two apprentices of Hafen Vienna were “role models” and were also available to answer questions about what girls stood for on this day.
Workshops and der MUK
On Girls’ Day, 13 girls from different schools between the ages of 13 and 19 came to the Private University of Music and Arts in the City of Vienna. They got their first impressions of the diverse work at the MUK. In two workshops, the participants were able to immerse themselves first in the world of rhythm and percussion instruments and then create a new popular piece of music on the theme of “famous female composers” with support from students from the “Instrumental and Singing Pedagogy” course. Despite the intense work and many ideas, there was a lot of laughter and enthusiastic work.
House and event technology in the MHV
At the Vienna Mozarthaus, the Girls’ Day for the eight participants focused on the field of house and event technology, ie the technical processes and activities necessary for a successful exhibition or event in the museum. This was followed by a tour of the house, during which the participants were introduced to the personality and work of the genius Wolfgang Amadé Mozart.
Daily editorial work at W24 (WH Media)
At WH Media, six girls aged 14-16 got an insight into the daily life of an editor at W24. They were shown how a TV report is made, what you need to bring to the table as a presenter and what jobs are available in a television station. Together with W24 editors, a TV report was developed from idea to broadcast and the girls also had the opportunity to try their hand at being weather presenters.

Interesting story(s) from the JMW
In the Vienna Jewish Museum at Dorotheergasse 11, Girls’ Day went from the top – archives, scanners, boxes, tissue paper, gloves, to the bottom – a painting stand, packaged goods, even more boxes, posters, folders and catalogs, and then through the presentations, where the girls took pictures of their favorite things. What do all these things tell and how are the inspiring stories given so that he does not get bored? Visits to the staff offices provided an opportunity to get to know the women behind the work of the museum. What does infrastructure, marketing and social media mean? Where is the director actually located and what do the curators do? The feedback session with Limonana led to refreshing reflections.
A look behind the scenes at the Wiener Stadthalle
In the Wiener Stadthalle, more than 130 employees ensure that more than 300 events run smoothly with around one million visitors each year. The job profiles are as diverse as they are exciting. The participants at the Girls’ Day were given an insight into the history of the Wiener Stadthalle, which opened in 1958, and the varied program of events, as well as information about the different departments and apprenticeships available, especially technician event. During the practical part, they could operate the controls themselves with the light and sound technology team.
