Reumannplatz in Vienna-Favoriten resembled a battlefield at night. “Young men” threw firecrackers, fired rockets, and terrorized the district the night before New Year’s Eve. Vienna’s FPÖ leader Nepp has had enough: “These guys should be arrested and taken out of the country immediately!” If Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) “is not willing and Interior Minister Karner is not able, and even police stations are closed, then I will personally kick out these riot brothers when I am mayor in 2025!”, writes Nepp in the logbook of the amateur fireworks enthusiasts.
His blue party colleague sees it similarly: FPÖ favorite district party chairman Stefan Berger sees frightening evidence of the failure of the current federal and city governments. “These conditions must be condemned in the strongest possible terms and the political leaders of the SPÖ and ÖVP must be clearly named for this development,” says Berger, noting that these riots have increased dramatically in recent years.
In a broadcast, Berger calls for a massive increase in the number of police forces in the 10th district. “This is the only way public safety and order can be restored,” explains Berger and also calls for a consistent deportation policy for foreigners who have committed criminal offenses.
