Party retains dual leadership
In a press conference today, Wednesday, non-executive city councilor Judith Pühringer announced that she would be running as the Green Party’s top candidate in next year’s Vienna election. Together with the non-executive city councilor Peter Kraus, Pühringer has been the dual leadership of the city party since May 2021. The green list for the state and local council elections, which will probably take place next fall, will be chosen at a state assembly on February 22, 2025. Kraus wants to apply for second place on the list there.
“I am very grateful that Peter and I decided together that I would take this step forward,” explains Pühringer. “I will support Judith Pühringer with all my might in this election campaign. “Vienna needs strong Greens who fight for a good tomorrow with innovation and courage,” said Kraus. The dual leadership in terms of party leadership will remain in place because they will be elected until 2026.
Pühringer assures that she wants to help shape the Vienna of tomorrow. She criticizes the governing party SPÖ, which in her eyes “only manages the past instead of shaping the future”. She locates problems in areas such as housing, education, climate and even transport, because inflation, high rents, housing shortages and the health and climate crisis are causing many Viennese to “give sleepless nights or wake them up with worries”.
Pühringer, who was born in Vienna, entered politics four years ago. Before working for the Vienna Greens, the mother of two daughters was managing director of “arbeit plus”, a network of 200 social enterprises, for 15 years.
